Our last club hunt for the year. A small group of club members gathered to spend two days searching huge, plowed fields for artifacts dating from ancient times to the Civil War. Weather was a mixed bag. Day one was beautiful and mild. Day 2 was sunny but below freezing with 25 MPH+ north winds all day! The group braved the conditions and was rewarded with some great discoveries. Highlights included two seated liberty half dimes, a large cent, two plantation tokens, numerous glass trade beads dating back as early as the 1700s, Civil War relics (dropped and fired bullets, eagle buttons and other brass artifacts), Native American artifacts (polished mini celt, dart point and clay cooking balls known as Poverty Point Objects), and lots of other relics and buttons including a 2-piece musicians button and an Spanish 1st Infantry 1-piece dating back to the Napoleonic period (circa 1790-1815). We had a great group that made some great finds!
